If you ever visit Barcelona, rent a bike. But seriously for only 10€ you get a bike for the whole day. This allowed us to see lots of things and it was nice because the move from place to place wasn't exhausting.
We were able to cruise along the beaches of the Mediterranean Sea. Felt amazing to walk through the soft, cool sand in our bare-feet. The ocean water was pretty chilly but the day was sunny and warm. Luckily our view wasn't completely tainted by the clothing "optional" people.
For lunch we made our way back to the Parc de la Ciutudella again, this time in hopes of testing out some food trucks. To our surprise it was completely packed with locals. Live music, dancing, food, balloons and a whole lot of people (later we learned it was for the holiday). The smells of all the food trucks was amazing. So many to pick from. T found a guy eating a sandwich of sorts so we picked that truck. Mr Frank and the Butis. No idea what it was but this line was the longest so we figured it must be good. While waiting in line, a lady behind us let us know buti is a meat found only in Spain. She said, "Americans have hot dogs, Spaniards have buti."
About an hour and a half later we got a butibasic and a butibacon with a side of xips = freshly made potato chips. Buti was this sausage looking meat cut in half and served on a baguette with tomato sauce (the butibacon had well, bacon and emmantel cheese). Soo delish and filling.
Spent the day exploring the city. This was probably one of my favorite bike rides. Ever.
Second thing you have to do in Barcelona is to try the churros i chocolat. We had been told a number of times to try it so we did. I'm thinking cinnamon-sugar churros with American style hot cocoa. Wrong. Instead the churros are plain with a crispy outside and a doughy middle. The chocolat was almost as thick as melted chocolat. Thick and creamy, the most amazing dark chocolat.
We were packing our bags when we heard some explosions outside our hotel. Ran out to find a firework show. Could we have ended our trip any better?
