Of Pigeons and Couscous

Friday, December 5, 2014
Tanner's first ville. The place where he fell in love with France.
Montpellier. The Place de la Comédie (especially all lit up at night), what a place to start a mission!
No wonder why he liked it so much.

Our apartment was pretty dang cute with a little loft for the bedroom.
Made it feel like we actually lived there.

After you pass through the arc de triomphe of Montpellier, you will find the promenade de peyrou (the royal square)

(T took this pretty picture, so artistic)

I had heard so much about feeding the pigeons...now it was my turn. Pull out a box of cous-cous and out of the trees they came. We made a line of couscous and slowly they'd all form a line eating it. Running through the flock was hilarious. Neither of us got pooped on for the win!

(I could do this all day)

(even the dog wanted in on the action)

(and a gif)

For lunch we took the tram out to odysseum shopping area to have lunch at Pirates Paradise. Yep a pirate themed restaurant in France.
While waiting for your food they put on a little show of canons, fire, and a pirates.

Next to the pigeon feeding, we had a nice time smooshing centimes on the tram tracks.
Another classic Tanner.

One of the morning's I came out and noticed a little cockroach hangin out on the kitchen floor. It looked dead so Tanner picked it up to throw it away. Just like that it jumped out of his hands. Some things were said (and probably shouldn't be repeated) as he pulled off his shoe and slammed it on the little guy. It squirted everywhere. Apparently Tanner really hates them.

These cobblestone streets are lined with some pretty fantastic shops. The coolest by far was an old joke/magic shop with toys through the years. Can't quite remember the name but there was also a shop, pretty similar to Anthropologie, that I'm sure would do well here.
It was a shp of cool decorations, clothing, scarves, and nick nacks.

(I just really like this)

(life-like painting similar to the one in Lyon)

Cathédral Saint-Pierre de Montpellier has the 2 most gianormous pillars out front. To me it looked more like a castle on the outside than a cathedral. The organ inside was huge. Luckily for us they were having an organ concert with one of the best organists in the world. Of course he started out with Bach. That music shook my soul.

We found a little candy shop back in Lyon where we picked out a couple random candies.
You know just an alligator, tennis ball, and a fried egg.

We had really wanted to see a fútbol match at some point on our trip but weren't able to time it right in any of the cities. Alternatively, we went to the Altrad Rugby stadium for a game of Montpellier Hérault Rugby vs Stade Français Paris. Rugby is a pretty big deal here and Montpellier's team is one of the best. Good thing we won.

Thanks Montpellier, we will come back one day...
